The Air Force volleyball team suffered a disappointing 3-2 (30-20, 30-25, 25-30, 24-30, 5-15) loss to BYU in a hard-fought, five-game battle. The Falcons took a two-game lead, and held a six-point advantage midway through game three, but the Cougars mounted a rally to win the final three games and the match. The Falcons fall to 10-5 overall and 1-1 in the league. BYU improves to 12-4 (3-1 MWC).
The Falcons started off like a team on a mission. They opened a 7-0 lead in game one and never led by less than six points en route to a 10-point victory. The second game was similar, with Air Force gaining an early lead never to trail in the game.
BYU faced a six-point deficit in the third game, but rallied to take the lead and eventually win the match. They cruised in game four and in game five, with the score tied 5-5, the Cougars rattled off 10 consecutive points to close out the match.
Delavane Diaz had 26 kills on 60 attacks and 11 errors (.250 hitting percentage). She also had 12 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Molly White had 13 kills on 20 attacks with just one error (.600). Setter Kristin Huitt had 54 assists and Carly Siefken had five service aces in the loss. The Falcons had 11 team blocks.
Four players finished the match in double figures in kills for the Cougars, including April Varner and Kim Wilson, who each had 18.
Air Force will look to regroup and prepare for Saturday (Oct. 4) when they face Utah.
