Senior goalkeeper J.J. Wolf made five saves as Air Force shutout Army, 1-0, in the first round of the Toys for Tots/Armed Forces Classic in St. Louis, Mo., Friday night, Sept. 5.
The win improved Air Force to 3-0 on the season, the team's best start in the 11-year history of the program. The win was also the second over Army in the last three years. Army suffered its first loss of the season and fell to 2-1.
After a scoreless first half, Falcon sophomore Raegan McDowell scored at the 61:45 mark. Her shot from 25 yards out slipped in just under the crossbar and deflected off the finger tips of Army keeper Morgan Bennett. The goal, McDowell's first of the season, was assisted by Leigh-Anne Withers.
The Falcons sustained pressure on Army throughout the game, but the Black Knights outshot Air Force, 14-4 overall and 5-3 on goal. Bennett made two saves for the Black Knights.
Air Force faces St. Louis on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 1:30 p.m.
