Willie Lloyd Earns Boxer of the Week Honors

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. -- The Air Force boxing team wrapped up the first half of the season with a round of Friday Night Fights on Dec. 10 at the Cadet Gym Boxing Room. The card featured 14 contests, with boxers ranging from 135 to 190-pounds.
"The boxers showed great heart and potential, stepping up to the two-minute rounds," Air Force boxing assistant coach 2Lt. Leif Nordhagen said following the competition. "The bouts have continued to improve throughout the semester as the boxers get in better shape and pace themselves better."
Sophomore Willie Lloyd was named the Academy's Boxer of the Week, after earning a decision over Chris Sifuentes in a 135-pound match-up. Despite giving up 20 pounds to Sifuentes, Lloyd held his ground and countered the pressure with good lateral movement and accurate combinations. Because it is difficult to match opponents in his usual 112-pound weight class, Lloyd has been inactive much of the semester, but showed little rust in the ring on Friday night.
There were 11 other cadets who earned decisions in the final Friday Night Fight contest of 2004. Jon Butcher (156-lbs.), James Dunn (158-lbs.), Mark Ruther (170-lbs.), Richard Davis (157-lbs.), Mark Burnham (195-lbs.), Shane Malkin (178-lbs.), Austin Street (163-lbs.), Sean Mitchell (190-lbs.), Andrew Brooks (180-lbs.), Andrew Quijano (175-lbs.) and Augustin Kamdem (187-lbs.) all earned decisions in their respective bouts. Delwyn Campo won the 144-pound decision when the referee stopped the contest in the second round, while Cliff Moore won the 165-pound bout when the ref stopped the bout in the third.
The Falcons return to action with another exciting round of Friday Night Fights on Jan. 14 in the Upper Boxing Room of the Cadet Gym.
