Oscar Casillas Named Boxer of the Week

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. -- After four weeks on the road, the Air Force boxing team returned to action at the Cadet Gym, hosting Friday Night Fights on Dec. 3. The card featured 11 bouts and after the competition, junior Oscar Casillas was named the Academy's Boxer of the Week.
Casillas earned a decision over sophomore Ronald Occenad in the 222-pound division. Casillas used a great effort to stop the allusive Occenad. After being kept off-balance in the first round, he came back midway through the second and cut off the ring. Keeping pressure on his younger opponent, Casillas used good movement in the ring to back Occenad against the ropes, where he connected on power shots and dominated the third round.
Also earning victorious decisions on Friday were Brian Navin (139-lbs.), Darren Smith (137-lbs.), Jeff Shehan (156-lbs.), Jacob Lambach (163-lbs.), Bruce Jamison (178-lbs.), Scott Hersh (158-lbs.), Ruben Ihuit-Ruiz (168-lbs.), Augustin Kamdem (180-lbs.) and Dustin Long (190-lbs.). Brock Predovich also won his bout at 207-pounds when the referee stopped the contest in the second round.
"The matches featured several boxers in their first contest with two-minute rounds," assistant coach 2Lt. Leif Nordhagen said. "These new boxers fought hard and made a statement to everyone."
The Falcons wrap up the year with another round of Friday Night Fights on Dec. 10. Match time is slated for 4:30 p.m., in the Upper Boxing Room of the Cadet Gym.
