The bad news is the two wrestlers representing the Air Force Academy at the NCAA Championships were winless in a combined four matches. The good news is that they will have several more opportunities to compete at nationals.
Freshman Chris Nissen and sophomore Brandon Strong both were 0-2 at the national championships this weekend in St. Louis. They each lost both matches by pin. Strong (133 pounds) lost his second match to David Hoffman (Virginia Tech) by fall at the 2:53 mark of the match. Nissen was also pinned in the first period of his second match, falling to Michigan State's Darren McKnight at the 2:29 match.
Both wrestlers battled through injuries this season. Each should be at full strength next season and will have more opportunities to qualify for nationals.
