Air Force Baseball Falls to Harvard and Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas - Air Force baseball lost to Harvard, 5-1, and Texas Tech, 11-0, in a pair of Sunday games at Dan Law Field. The Falcons, who were swept in all four games over the weekend, fall to 4-9 on the season.
In the morning game, Harvard (2-2) banged out 13 hits to down Air Force 5-1. Frank Herrmann (1-0) tossed an eight-hit complete game for the Crimson.
Trey Hendricks went 3-for-5 and Zak Farkes went 2-for-2 with three walks to lead Harvard's offense. Colton Walter and Nathan DeRohan had two hits apiece for the Falcons.
Air Force starting pitcher Blake Nixon (0-2) took the loss despite his best outing of the season. In five innings pitched, Nixon allowed four runs, three earned, while fanning four.
Harvard got two runs in the bottom of the first on Josh Klimkiewicz's two-run single to take a 2-0 lead. The Crimson made it a 3-0 ballgame as Zak Farkes scored on a doubleplay in the third and then led 4-0 with a run in the fifth.
Air Force got on the scoreboard in the eighth inning to make it a 4-1 score. With two outs Herrmann dropped the ball while standing on the rubber and was called for a balk, allowing Nathan DeRohan to score from third base.
In the second game Texas Tech's Michael McGowan and Tanner McElroy combined to toss a seven-hit shutout leading the Red Raiders to a 11-0 win. The game was called after seven innings due to the 10-run rule.
Falcon starter Ken Hodgson (1-3) took the loss, allowing eight runs, seven earned in three innings of work.
Texas Tech scored a run in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. Jose Delgado, who reached on a throwing error, came around to score on Josh Brady's single to center field. The Red Raiders added three more runs in the second, highlighted by Matthew Coco's two-run homer to right field.
Tech made it 8-0 as they scored four more in the third, capped off by Cameron Blair's three-run homer to left field. The Red Raiders added two more in the fourth and one more in the fifth to lead 11-0.
Coco led the way for Texas Tech, going 2-for-2 with three runs and RBI. Travis Fugler was the leading hitter for Air Force, going 2-for-3.
Air Force returns to action Friday, March 12, playing host to Northern Colorado at the Academy.
