Falcons Continue Action at the Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif. - The Air Force track and field program continued action at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., as several Falcons competed on the second day of competition at the annual event that featured some of the world's top athletes.
Senior Bryant Bevan (Langhorne, Pa.) had the best finish of the selected Falcons that took to the track, finishing 11th out of 50 competitors in the 800-meter run. Bevan crossed the finish line in season-best time of 1:51.07. Sophomore Chris Gausepohl (Fallbrook, Calif.) also competed in that event, finishing 49th with a time of 2:00.21.
Sophomore Troy Jensen (Santa Ana, Calif.) finished 22nd in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.62, while three other cadet-athletes were a part of the 122 runners that competed in the 1500-meter run. Junior Nathan Franz (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) finished 79th with a time of 3:53.13. Sophomore Travis Patterson (Simi Valley, Calif.) and junior Derek Storbeck (Wayne, N.J.) finished 84th and 85th, with respective times of 3:54.04 and 3:54.07.
Senior Anthony Park (Las Vegas, Nev.) competed in the long jump - the only Falcon to compete in a field event. Park registered a sixth-place finish in the event with a distance of 22'2?".
On the women's side, junior Cindy Dawson (Yreka, Calif.) finished 32nd of 54 competitors in the 800-meter run, crossing the finish line in a time of 2:13.70, while senior Kelly McPherson (RAF Mildenhall, England) took 47th in a time of 2:16.97.
Junior Jami Hodge (Sachse, Texas) placed 28th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.57. Senior Jean Taylor (Florissant, Mo.) finished 71st out of 103 athletes in the 1500-meter run, crossing the finish line in a season-best time of 4:37.80. Freshman Beth Catherwood (Chevy Chase, Md.) finished 100th with a time of 4:51.21.
The 2004 Mt. SAC Relays conclude tomorrow (April 18) at the Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif., on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College.
