CLOVIS, Calif. – Backed by a new Air Force Record in the heptathlon and a podium finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase, the Air Force track and field team continued competition at the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Outdoor Championships this afternoon (May 15) in Clovis.
Junior Kayla Beach became just the second Falcons to surpass the 5000-point barrier in the heptathlon, as she collected a career-high 5104 points to regain control of the Air Force Record and capture a fourth-place finish in the conference meet. With that tally, Beach added more than 450 points to the program's Junior Class standard that Lesly Torres had held since 2012 and accounted for the highest heptathlon placement at a conference meet.
In addition to Beach retaking the program's all-time record, sophomores Morgan Glaser and Sarah Reynolds accounted for the second- and third-highest heptathlon totals in Air Force history, while earning scoring finishes at the conference meet. Glaser, who clocked the fastest 800-meter run of the day to win the final event, surpassed 5000 points for the second-straight heptathlon (career-best 5062, No. 2 all-time at Air Force) during a fifth-place finish, while Reynolds posted a career-high total 4943 points (No. 3 all-time at Air Force) to place seventh.
With the completion of the competition, three of the program's heptathlon event records were officially set. Reynolds and Glaser reset their own standards in the 100-meter hurdles (14.39) and high jump (1.82m/5'11½"), respectively, while Beach's 124'4' (37.90m) throw in the javelin added nearly 10 feet to an event record that had stood since 1995 – and gave the current trio of Falcons every heptathlon event record in Academy history.
Sophomore Junior Allen earned a podium finish for the Falcons on Friday, as he clocked the fourth-fastest steeplechase in program history – an 8:40.45 finish that took six seconds off an Air Force Sophomore Class Record that Bret Hyde had held since 1979 – to finish third in the championship field and claim the program's fourth conference medal in the steeplechase.
In his first decathlon since 2024, junior Wyatt Curl accounted for a career-best total of 6423 points to move up to No. 22 on the program's all-time standings and finish fourth in the conference. He best finishes during the day came from third-place scores in the pole vault (4.73m/15'6¼") and javelin throw (45.87m/150'4"). Curl was one of two Air Force scorers for the men in the decathlon, as freshman Chris Atunku tallied 4741 points to finish seventh in his first-ever decathlon.
The Falcons accounted for two additional scoring finishes this evening, as senior Texas Tanner finished fifth in the men's shot put with a throw of 18.16 meters (59'7") and freshman Julie Segroves cleared 3.88 meters (12'8¾") to tie for sixth in the women's pole vault.
Like yesterday, several qualifying races were contested – with the Falcons advancing eight into four finals.
Air Force will be represented in both championship races of the 1500-meter run. The men advanced four into their final, as senior Ben Scheller (3:47.83), classmate Ethan Ashley (3:49.59), sophomore Saketh Rudraraju (3:49.77) and junior Dominykas Remeikis (4:03.00) all finished first or second in their respective qualifying heats to earn an automatic bid into the finals. Juniors Anna Harden and Scarlet Fetterolf will represent Air Force in the women's race, as Harden earned a Big Q after finishing second in her heat (4:23.95) and Fetterolf advanced on time after clocking in at 4:27.45.
Freshman Zachary DeWalt and sophomore Asher Jenkins both qualified to their second championship race on Friday after advancing out of the 200-meter prelims during yesterday's qualifying round. DeWalt earned a automatic bid into the finals of the 400-meter dash today after a second-place finish in his heat (46.89), while Jenkins advanced out of the 100-meter dash on time, following a 10.36 outing.
The men are third after three days of action with 42 points, while the women are fourth with 31 points.
Air Force returns to Veterans Memorial Stadium tomorrow (May 16) for Championship Saturday of the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Action is slated to begin at 1:00 pm (PT) and the entire competition will be streamed live on the MW Network.
