Dana Pounds Advances to Finals of Olympic Trials

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Air Force All-American Dana Pounds (Lexington, Ky.) advanced to the finals of the javelin throw at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials on Friday night (July 9) by placing third in the qualifying round. Backed by a distance of 172'10", Pounds is one of 12 athletes that advanced to the finals on Sunday (July 11), where the top three finishers will earn spots on the U.S. Olympic Team.
Pounds placed second in her flight and third overall, with a top throw of 172'10". Her first attempt of the night was just shy of her Academy-record and personal-best mark of 172'11". Pounds was the highest-placing collegiate athlete of the night and one of just two that advanced to the finals.
The finals of the javelin throw will begin at 2:45 p.m. PST on Sunday, July 11, at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex in Sacramento, Calif.
