Air Force Wins 11th-Straight Service Academy Golf Classic

Roanoke, Texas -- With an impressive performance in the final round on Tuesday, the Air Force golf team continued its dominance at the annual Service Academy Golf Classic, held this year at the Trophy Club Hogan Course, capturing the Reemtsma Trophy for the 11th-consecutive year. The Falcons, facing off against rivals Army and Navy, shot a 5-under-par 355 as a team in the third round to bring their tournament total to 1096. The Black Knights finished 13 strokes behind at 1109, while the Midshipmen finished third with a score of 1135.
Winning the Nick Stafford Medalist Trophy at the event, now in its 13th season, was Army's Patrick Beverly, who finished the tournament at 2-under-par (214). Making a run for first place honors was the Falcons' Tyler Labrum (So., Roosevelt, Utah), who fired a 69 in the final round to finish second at even-par (216).
Air Force landed an additional five golfers in the top 10, with junior Tyler Goulding (Tracy, Calif.) moving up to third place after shooting a 70 in round three to finish at 220. Sophomore Bob Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.) also notched a score of 70 to end the tournament, finishing tied for fifth at 223.
Senior captain Scott Redmond (Columbus, Ga.) and freshman Andrew Gibson (San Ramon, Calif.) finished seventh and eighth, respectfully, with scores of 224 and 225. Meanwhile, sophomore Jared Freeman (Brazil, Ind.) saved his best round for last, firing a 73 on Tuesday to finish tied for 10th at 228. Rounding out the Air Force group was junior Chad Follett (El Paso, Texas), who finished tied for 17th with a 232.
The Falcons return to action next week, Oct. 31-Nov.1, when they head to Las Cruces, N.M., for the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, hosted by New Mexico State.
