Three Falcons Claim Semifinal Wins in Reno

RENO, Nev. -- Action continued for the Air Force boxing team at the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) West Regional Championships on Friday, March 18, at the El Dorado Hotel in Reno, Nev. Three Falcons claimed victories to advance to the regional finals tomorrow night.
Sophomore Ezekiel Ignaco (Waukegan, Ill.) opened the night with a decision over Santa Clara's Aurturo Alvarez at 125-pounds. Nevada's Dave Sanchez got the better of Brian Navin (Boston, Mass.) at 132-pounds, taking the decision from the Falcon freshman.
Junior Luis Pena (Laredo, Texas) had the team's only shortened bout, as the referee stopped his 139-pound contest with Cal's Mariano Esparza in the second round.
Senior Blake Baldi (Metamora, Ill.) lost a decision to Cal's Todd Gaylord at 147 pounds, while classmate Adam Vance (Leawood, Kan.) fell by decision to Jeff Watkins of UNLV in the 156-pound weight class.
Senior Mike Sackenheim (Hamilton, Ohio) closed out the night winning a decision over Cal's Zach White at 165-pounds.
Ignaco, Pena and Sackenheim will join the six remaining Air Force contenders on Saturday (March 19) for the regional finals in Reno, Nev.
