Nick Wilson Leads Falcons at New Mexico Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Junior Nick Wilson (Jacksonville, Fla.) claimed the title in the 5000-meter run as the Air Force track and field team concluded competition at the Mondrall Sperling-Don Kirby Memorial Invitational on Saturday, April 30, in Albuquerque, N.M.
Wilson, who crossed the finish line in a 15:11.55, was the Falcons' only event winner, but one of 23 top-five finishes procured by Air Force in a meet that featured six teams including Mountain West Conference rivals, New Mexico and Colorado State.
Senior Erin Richardson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was the top place-finisher on the women's side, taking second in the pole vault with a season-best matching vault of 11'5?". Richardson first recorded that height this season at the Willie Williams Classic.
Sophomore Casey Johnson (Los Angeles, Calif.) picked up two top-five finishes in the horizontal jumps. Johnson recorded a third-place distance of 36'7" in the triple jump, after a fifth-place mark of 17'0?" in the triple jump.
Senior Dominique Boivin (Shoreline, Wash.) notched a fourth-place finish in the discus, with a season-best throw of 153'6", while sophomore Casey Bayne (El Segundo, Calif.) finished fifth in the javelin with a throw of 124'0". Classmate Kim Brady (New Rochelle, N.Y.) ran the 400-meter hurdles in a career-best time of 64.75 to also finish fifth.
Freshman Travis Picou (Spring Valley, Calif.) picked up a pair of second-place finishes for the men's team. Picou clocked a 10.75 in the 100-meter dash, before claiming a 21.68 in the 200-meter dash for his runner-up finishes.
Air Force also earned second-place finishes from a pair of seniors. Kyle Davidson (Houston, Texas) ran a 9:26.00 in the 3000-meter steeplechase to finish second, while classmate Christian Morgan (Henderson, Nev.) matched his season-best height in the pole vault to finish second with a 16'6?".
Sophomore Nick Luina (Yorktown, Va.) finished third in the 400-meter dash after crossing the finish line in a season-best time of 48.08., while freshman Kevin Hawkins (Bonney Lake, Wash.) took third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.86. Junior Travis Patterson (Simi Valley, Calif.) also picked up a third-place finish in the 1500-meter run (3:56.01).
Albuquerque-native Brian Willis led the Air Force throwers with a third-place finish in the javelin with a toss of 186'0".
Both relay teams finished fourth on the day. The 4x100-meter relay team clocked a time of 42.73, while the 4x400-meter team finished in 3:26.98.
Senior Trey Fryman (Elk City, Okla.) matched his career-best height in the pole vault (16'0?") to finish fourth, while junior Billy Flynt (Platte City, Mo.) ran a career-best 48.11 to place fourth in the 400-meter dash.
Air Force took two spots in the long jump's top-five. Senior Caleb Pelger (Peabody, Mass.) recorded a distance of 21'6?" to finish fourth, while freshman Devin Hart (Colorado Springs, Colo.) jumped a distance of 21'3?" to place fifth.
Sophomore Bryan Jones (Fort Walton Beach, Fla.) finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 52'1?", while sophomore Marcus Wells (Joseph, Ore.) threw a 182'4" in the javelin to also place fifth.
Air Force returns to the Academy on Friday, May 6, for the Ris Westen-Air Force Twilight Invitational at the Falcon Outdoor Track. It will be the final warm-up for the Falcons before the Mountain West Conference Championships.
