Dana Pounds Advances to NCAA Finals in the Javelin

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- With a toss of 163'6", Air Force junior Dana Pounds (Lexington, Ky.) advanced to her second straight national championships in the javelin. Pounds was one of three Falcons to compete in the preliminary rounds of competition at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
Pounds tossed the 163'6" on her opening throw to finish sixth in the preliminaries. The top 12 finishers from the first round of action advance to the national finals, which will be held on Friday, June 10.
In other action, sophomore Olivia Korte (Seneca, Kan.) placed 18th in the discus throw, backed by a toss of 158'3". Senior Makisi Haleck (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) no-heighted his opening attempt of the pole vault competition to finish tied for 15th.
Junior Mark Walter will compete tomorrow (June 9) night in the preliminary heat of the 1500-meter run. The race is scheduled to begin at 7:35 p.m. (PST).
