Air Force Takes Three at Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Harvey White was one of three sophomores from the Air Force boxing team to earn victories over Army at the yearly showdown in West Point, N.Y., on Friday, Nov. 3. White, who was named the Academy's Boxer of the Week for his 132-pound victory over Dan Hogan, joined classmates Jesse Horton and Nicholas Goc as victors.

The trio of sophomores opened the match by taking three of the first four bouts.

In the afternoon's first contest, Horton earned a victory at 122 pounds over Army's Rodolfo Davila when the referee stopped their bout in the third round. Competing at 132 pounds, White was the next Falcon to step into the ring. Using a stiff upper jab, White was able to put together several good combinations over his taller opponent and claim the unanimous decision. Competing in a heavier weight class, Goc was able to easily decision Russell Calloway in a 143-pound contest.

Air Force competed in nine other bouts on the afternoon.

Sophomore David Simon dropped a 137-pound contest to Army's Danny Preister. Army's Nick Antonio decisioned junior Dominic Foglia at 156 pounds, while Black Knight Ramirez took a decision from senior Trevor Cook at 162 pounds and classmate Mark Ruther fell to Army's Perry in a 170-pound bout. Air Force coach Eddie Weichers retired Bruce Jamison in the first round of his 175-pound bout with Army's Daniel Khan, when he saw Jamison favoring his shoulder.

Junior Ruben Ihiut-Ruiz was decisioned by the Black Knights' Alonzo McNeal at 178 pounds, while senior Evin Negron lost a decision to Army's Cory Kastle at 183 pounds. The final two bouts of the night were fought at the 185-pound weight class. Freshman Lincoln Miller, the youngest Falcon to make the trip to West Point, fell to Army's Michael Njokoubi, while junior Chris Johnson dropped a decision to the Black Knights' Reggie Smith.

Despite the 3-9 record on the day, the Air Force coaching staff was able to see several up-and-coming contenders. The Falcons are off from competition until Friday, Nov. 18, when they host Friday Night Fights at 4:30 p.m., in the Upper Boxing Room of the Cadet Gymnasium.
