Six members of the Air Force Academy men's soccer team were named to the 2006 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation all-conference teams, announced today by the conference. Two players, juniors Andy Nigro and Ian Hauck were first-team selections.
In addition, senior Brendan Greenaway and junior Brian Guyette earned second-team honors, while sophomore Brett Selzer and freshman Josh Rhynard were named to the third-team.
Nigro, a midfielder from Colorado Springs, earned his first all-conference selection after finishing second on the team in scoring with seven points on two goals and three assists this season. He scored a team-high two goals in the Falcons' 2-1 victory over Sacramento State at the Academy, helping him earn MPSF Player of the Week honors.
Hauck, a defender from Lake Mary, Fla., scored one goal and added two assists this season for four points. He joined Nigro as two of the three falcons to start all 18 games this season. His goal this season, the second of his career, came against Evansville and he was a solid player on the Falcon back line all season.
Greenaway, a midfielder from Culpeper, Va., also finished with four points, scoring two goals in '06. He led the team with 29 shots and converted the team's lone penalty kick during the campaign. Guyette, the team's top goaltender from Phoenix, Az., earned his second consecutive second-team selection by producing a 1.88 goals-against average with two shutouts.
Selzer, a defender from Salt Lake City, Utah, earned his first all-conference honor by also starting all 18 games and helping the Falcon defense allow just five goals in the last six games, while Rhynard, a forward from Helena, Mont., earned his first spot on the all-MPSF teams after leading the Falcons in scoring with 11 points on five goals and one assist.
Air Force finished the 2006 campaign with a 5-12-1 overall record and a 4-6 mark in the MPSF.
