BERKELEY, Calif. -- Despite individual gold medals from juniors Willie Lloyd and Ian Tuznik, the Air Force boxing team's reign over the western region came to an end late Saturday (March 25) with a second-place finish at the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) Western Regional Championships in Berkeley, Calif.

With two gold, six silver and four bronze medals, Air Force finished second with 46 team points. The Falcons' streak of 26 consecutive regional titles came to an end as UNLV tallied 68 points to win that program's first regional title.

Air Force's two gold medalists came from the lightest and heaviest weight classes. In the first bout of the evening, Lloyd collected his third straight regional title at 112-pounds, as he took a decision from Jason Morris of UNLV. With a decision over Justin Brown (UNLV), Tuznik closed out the evening with his first heavyweight regional championship.

The six other competitors for the Blue and Silver collected silver medal accolades. At 119 pounds, junior Ezekiel Ignaco lost a decision to Alex Nyakana of UNLV, while senior Jeremy Homan was decisioned by Nevada's Jose Casas at 125 pounds. In a rematch of last year's 139-pound national championship bout, Daniel Reese of UNLV took a decision from senior Luis Pena.

Sophomore Clifford Moore suffered his first loss of the season (10-1) to Nevada's Francisco Torres in the finals of the 156-pound weight class. Junior Joe Conrad was decisioned by UNLV's Joey Massa at 165 pounds and sophomore John Quinn lost his 195-pound bout to Henry Namauu (UNLV) when the referee stopped their contest in the third round.

Although the team finish may not have gone as planned, Air Force still qualified all 12 of its boxers for the upcoming NCBA National Championships. Tonight's gold and silver medalists were all automatically entered into the national meet, while the Falcons' four bronze medalists earned at-large bids. The national meet will be held April 6-8 in Reno.
