INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Recent Air Force graduate Dana Pounds' competition at the 2006 AT&T U.S. Track and Field Championships was postponed for a day due to severe weather that went through the Indianapolis area on Thursday (June 22).
After thunderstorms and lightning caused a 90-minute delay in the late afternoon, the day's competition was halted for good at 7:30 as another line of storms moved into the area.
As a result of the weather delay, Pounds will now compete in the javelin on Friday (June 23) at 6 p.m.
The recently commissioned second lieutenant is one of 17 athletes that qualified for the national meet. With a season-best throw of 195'8", Pounds is ranked second amongst the field, only trailing American record-holder Kim Kreiner (203'9").
