Four Golfers Named To Spring Academic All-Conference Team

Colorado Springs, Colo. -- A total of 731 student-athletes, including four Air Force golfers, were named to the spring 2006 Academic All-Mountain West Conference team, as released by the conference office Tuesday morning. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
BYU led the way with 168 student-athletes named to the team, followed by New Mexico (105) and UNLV (90), Colorado State (77), Wyoming (68), Air Force (64), Utah (63), TCU (59) and San Diego State (37).
Representing the Falcons' golf team as spring academic all-conference selections were rising senior Tyler Goulding (Tracy, Calif.) and rising juniors Jared Freeman (Brazil, Ind.), Matt Tanis (Asbury, N.J.) and Bob Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.). Goulding, Air Force's top performer for the past two seasons, holds a 3.0 GPA in systems engineering management, Freeman is a behavioral sciences major with a 3.03 GPA, Tanis, a biology and chemistry double-major, holds a 3.31 GPA and Whitney currently has a 3.27 GPA in civil engineering.
The Falcons will get the 2006 fall season off to a start on Sept.9-10, when they host the annual Falcon Invitational at Eisenhower Golf Course.
