Falcons Conclude Competition at Roy Griak Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Air Force cross country teams wrapped up competition at the annual Roy Griak Invitational this morning (Sept. 23) in Minneapolis, Minn. The men finished 23rd in the 34-team 8k Gold Race, while the women picked up a 24th-place team finish in their 30-team 6k Gold Race.

In all, there were over 350 schools and 4,000 athletes competing at the annual event. The meet ranged from high school races to the Division II/III Maroon races to the Division I Gold races.

Back by a pair of top-100 finishes, the Air Force women's team recorded 605 points to finish 24th. Freshman Brittany Morreale concluded the race in 23:09 to place 83rd. Junior Kelly Robinson recorded a time of 23:24 to take 96th-place. Senior Margaret Frash also finished within the top-half of the 288-competitor race, clocking a time of 23:33 to place 108th. Freshman Alison Romanko posted a time of 24:11 to finish 149th, while junior Kate Papenberg timed in a 24:45 to round out the Air Force scorers in 160th-place.

As a team, the Air Force men finished 23rd with 627 points. Senior Richard Elmore clocked the team's top finish, crossing the finish line in 26:19 to finish 101st. The entire contingent of Air Force scorers finished within the top-half of the 301-member field. Junior Josh Van Wyngaarden placed 111th, with a time of 26:24. Classmate Ian McFarland finished 130th after clocking a time of 26:33, while sophomore Matt Williams placed 139th with a time of 26:39. Fellow sophomore Sebastian Ortiz rounded out the Air Force scorers with a 146th-place finish of 26:45.

After having several weeks off from competition prior to today's meet, Air Force quickly gets back into the swing of things, as it heads to Salt Lake City, Utah, for the Utah Fall Festival on Friday, Sept. 29.
