Falcons Drop Pair of "Home" Games
The Air Force Falcons lost a pair of MPSF home games two weeks ago. San Jose State defeated the Falcons, 3-1, on Friday, Oct. 19, then Sacramento State downed Air Force, 2-1, on Sunday, Oct. 21. Sophomore Kevin Rosser scored the team's only goal against SJSU, while senior Andy Nigro put away a PK against the Hornets. The game against Sacramento State was moved to Colorado College because of a snowstorm that hit the Academy early that morning.
Rosser Scores First Career Goal
Sophomore Kevin Rosser scored the first goal of his career two weeks ago against San Jose State. He fired a shot from 22 yards that eluded Spartan goalie Lewis Sweeney and tied the game at 1-all. Freshman Kyle Moses and senior Chris Mathews assisted on the play. Rosser has one goal and one assist this season.
Rematches This Weekend
After the entire conference took a week off from playing MPSF opponents, Air Force heads to California this weekend to play the teams it most recently played looking for a little redemption. The Falcons will play at San Jose State on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m., then at Sacramento State on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. The Falcons, who have lost seven games this season by one goal, are tied for fifth in the MPSF with a 1-4 conference record.
Guyette Still Tops in Saves
Senior goalie Brian Guyette continues to lead the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation by averaging 5.46 saves per game and is fourth with a 1.44 GAA. Mathews, meanwhile, is tied for sixth in the conference with 0.23 assists per game. He leads the team with three helpers this season.

San Jose State 3, Air Force 1
Hiroki Akiyama scored the game-winning goal in the 81st minute and Ismael Ibarra added an insurance goal with less than a minute remaining Friday night to give the San Jose State men's soccer team a 3-1 victory over Air Force at Cadet Soccer Stadium. With the victory, San Jose State improved to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the MPSF, while the Falcons fell to 3-8-1 and 1-3 in league play. Akiyama notched his first goal of the season by knocking in a rebound shot right in front of the net after Air Force goalie Brian Guyette made a save on a shot from the right side by Edward Murillo-Jimenez. Guyette, who made seven saves, had no chance on Akiyama's rebound at the 80:07 mark. The Spartans got on the scoreboard early in the game as Savio Carrijo scored in the ninth minute. Ed Brand started the play with a long pass from center field that Ibarra one-touched from the top of the box to Carrijo on the right side. Carrijo gathered the pass and chipped a shot over Guyette to give SJSU a 1-0 lead. The Falcons responded late in the first half when sophomore defender Kevin Rosser notched the first goal of his career in the 42nd minute when he blasted a shot from 22 yards that SJSU netminder Lewis Sweeney got a hand on but the ball still found the back of the net. Freshman Kyle Moses and senior Chris Mathews assisted on the play. SJSU put the game away with 59 seconds when Ibarra took a pass around midfield from Gavin Wenyon that started a four-on-two as the Falcons were pushing up looking for the tying goal. Ibarra never gave up the ball and fired a shot from 17 yards past Guyette for the final margin. In an evenly played game, Air Force outshot San Jose State, 17-14, but the Spartans held a 10-7 advantage in shots on goal. SJSU also had five corner kicks, to none for Air Force.
Sacramento State 2, Air Force 1
Blake Nunes and Brandon Baggett scored second half goals Sunday to lead the Sacramento State men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo. The game was played at Colorado College in downtown Colorado Springs after a snowstorm hit the Academy early Sunday morning. With the loss, its seventh by one goal this season, Air Force fell to 3-9-1 and 1-4 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, while the Hornets improved to 3-9-2 and 2-2-1 in league play. With cloudy skies and the temperatures not getting out of the 30s, neither team could muster a shot on goal in the first half. In fact, there were only five total shots in the first 45 minutes, with Air Force attempting three and Sacramento State recording two. Nunes put the Hornets up 1-0 in the 57th minute after taking a pass from Emmanuel Ochoa and chipping a shot from 10 yards out over the outstretched arms of Air Force goalie Brian Guyette. The Falcons tied up the score when senior Andy Nigro converted a penalty kick in the 63rd minute. The Falcons were awarded the PK when sophomore Josh Rhynard was taken down in the box by Hornet keeper Ryan Kenny. Nigro then put away his second goal of the season. The Hornets scored the game-winner in the 67th minute when Bagget, who entered the game earlier in the second half, took a crossing pass from Fernando Cabades and struck a header past Guyette. Air Force held a 12-8 advantage in total shots and each team had four shots on goal. Kenny made three saves for the Hornets, while Guyette had two for Air Force.
