USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Unable to overcome the strong attacking (.254) of UNLV, the Air Force volleyball team dropped a three-game set to the visiting Rebels on Thursday, Nov. 1, at the Academy. The Falcons, who played UNLV close during the first half of the opening game and the second half of the last game, fell in straight 30-19, 30-19, 30-25 sets.
Air Force jumped out to the early 3-1 lead and maintained its advantage until the Rebels tied the set at 15. Several long serving streaks by UNLV put the Falcons on the wrong side of the 30-19 score. UNLV took the lead to start the second set and quickly doubled up the Falcons at 14-7, before rolling to the 30-19 win. The Falcons got down early in the third set, but kept the Rebels just shy of match-point while pulling within five, before succumbing to the 30-25 defeat.
Freshman Caroline Kurtz led the Falcons with eight kills, while junior Jasamine Pettie added six. Sophomore Jocelyn Booker, who tallied five kills in less than two games, led the Flacons with a .308 hitting percentage, as she connected on five of 13 attempts (with just one error). Senior Kim Kallabis tallied a team-best 16 assists, while freshman Jessica Hellmann accounted for 12.
Senior Morgan Dolan tied for the match-lead with 13 digs, while Kallabis chipped in nine. Freshman Kelly Spencer put down a pair of service aces, while Dolan and Kallabis each added one.
As a team, the Falcons out-blocked the Rebels. Air Force's 5.0 total blocks were highlighted by Pettie's three assisted stops.
The Falcons close out their home schedule tomorrow night (Nov. 2) when they host San Diego State. Air Force will recognize its three seniors - Dolan, Kallabis and Rebecca Gerton - prior to the match, which is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
