Youngsters Lead Falcons at Wyoming

LARAMIE, Wyo. - During the final match of the regular season, the younger members of the Air Force volleyball team gave a positive look to the future, leading the squad in nearly every statistical category. The Falcons dropped a three-game match to the host Cowgirls on Friday, Nov. 16, in Laramie, Wyo. Air Force dropped the first set 30-16, before falling by matching scores of 30-25 in the final two games.
Freshman Caroline Kurtz led the Falcons with eight kills, while classmate Nichole Stilwell tallied five. Kurtz also posted a team-high 11 digs. Sophomore Michelle Harrington, who led the team with a .273 hitting percentage, accounted for a team-best five blocks. Harrington also accounted for two of the team's three service aces, while freshman Jessica Hellmann tallied the other.
In fact, the only statistical category not highlighted by the two youngest classes was in assists, as senior Kim Kallabis handled the majority of the setting duties to tally 19.
As a team, the Falcons accounted for seven total blocks (one solo, 12 assisted). While Harrington led the team with one solo and four assisted stops, junior Jasamine Pettie helped on another four. Stilwell added two, while Kurtz and junior Kristina Stewart each posted one.
Air Force returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 21, when it travels to Las Vegas, Nev., for the 2007 Mountain West Conference Tournament. The Falcons will play at 3:30 p.m., in the tournament's play-in match against San Diego State.
