Three Falcons Claim Semifinal Victories

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Air Force boxing team picked up three victories during the semifinal round of competition at the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) Western Regional Championships on Friday, March 30, in Las Vegas, Nev. The Falcons competed in seven bouts today, with all outcomes going to judge's decision.

The Falcons' first bout of the night came at 132 pounds, where freshman Alexander Shin (Kapolei, Hawaii) lost a decision to Nathan Wong of UNLV. Competing in his second contest in as many nights, sophomore Nicholas Goc (Clearwater Beach, Fla.) earned a decision over Santa Clara's Zach White at 139 pounds.

Senior Jahmil Edwards (Hampton, Va.) dropped a decision to Cal's Todd Gaylord at 147 pounds, while junior Clifford Moore (Pittsburgh, Pa.) lost to Francisco Torres of Nevada at 156 pounds.

Senior Joe Conrad (Bridgeport, Va.) defeated Cal's Zach White by decision at 165 pounds. Classmate Evin Negron (Salem, N.J.) lost to San Francisco's Yager at 175 pounds. Sophomore Boyce Loomis (Medina, Ohio) rounded out the Falcons' contenders with a 185-pound victory over Nevada's Matt Johnson.

Air Force currently leads the field with 48 points, while host Nevada is in second with 33 points and defending regional champion UNLV is third with 29 points.

Action concludes at the NCBA Western Regionals on Saturday, March 31, with the final round of competition. The three winners from tonight's bouts will join the four Falcons who automatically advanced to the finals due to the number of contenders in their respective weight classes. In addition, the four Falcons who fell in tonight's bouts will compete in third-place contests for the right to qualify for an at-large bid to the national championships.
