LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Air Force senior Karl Bolt was named first-team All-Mountain West Conference baseball team. Bolt, who made the team as a designated hitter, is the first Falcon to make the All-MWC team since 2003. The announcement of the squad, as selected by the league's head coaches, was announced Tuesday evening at the pre-tournament banquet for this week's MWC championship event.
Bolt, a Stockton, Calif., native has been the Falcons' top hitter the past three seasons. The senior led the Falcon in nearly every hitting category including batting average (.351), home runs (8), doubles (15) and RBI (46). Bolt played just as well in conference play, hitting .357 with 30 hits and 19 RBI in 22 conference games.
Bolt concludes his career at Air Force ranking in the top-10 all-time in games played (197), at bats (682), hits (228), doubles (46), home runs (33), hit-by-pitches (34), walks (91) and RBI (146).
Bolt is the first Air Force player to make the All-MWC team since three Falcons did so in 2003. He is also the first first-team selection since Bowie Frost did so in 2002.
New Mexico junior second baseman Jordan Pacheco was named MWC Player of the Year. BYU senior right-hander Jesse Craig was named MWC Pitcher of the Year. Steve Parker of BYU and Stephen Strasburg of San Diego State were named co-freshmen of the year. TCU's Jim Schlossnagle was named MWC Coach of the Year.
Regular-season champion TCU led the all-conference squad with 11 selections, while San Diego State had six honorees and BYU and New Mexico had three student-athletes apiece. Utah had two honorees while Air Force and UNLV each had one selection. This year's team was made up of 12 juniors, 10 seniors, four sophomores and one freshman.
