EUGENE, Ore. - Former Air Force javelin thrower and two-time NCAA champion 2Lt Dana Pounds, representing the Air Force's World Class Athlete Program, picked up a third-place finish at the prestigious Prefontaine Classic on Sunday, June 10, in Eugene, Ore. The meet, which featured many of the world's top athletes, was held at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field, home of the 2008 Olympic Trials.
Pounds, who threw a 192'3", finished only behind World record holder Barbora Spotakova (213'11") and American record holder Kim Kreiner (193'0"). That trio distanced themselves from the rest of the competition, as Denmark's Christian Scherwin took fourth at 188'5". Lavern Eve (Bahamas) and Sarah Malone (USA) rounded out the field with respective throws of 187'8" and 162'11".
