USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Four members of the Air Force track and field program will be competing this weekend (June 20-24) at two different championship events in Indianapolis, Ind. The four-day meet, which features some of the top athletes in the nation, will be held at the Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium on the campus of IUPUI.
Current athletes Nick Frawley (pole vault) and Sara Neubauer (shot put, discus throw) will represent the Falcons at the 2007 Finish Line USA Junior Outdoor Championships, while former Falcons and current volunteer coaches Paul Gensic (pole vault) and Dana Pounds (javelin throw) will be competing at the 2007 AT&T USA Senior Outdoor Championships.
With a career-best qualifying mark of 17'5½" at the Mountain West Conference championships to win his first-ever title, Frawley is ranked second in the 23-member field. Neubauer leads the 29-competitor field in the shot put with a career-best, Academy-record throw of 50'2¾". In addition, she is ranked third in the 27-person discus throw with a toss of 160'11".
As former conference champions and NCAA All-Americans, Gensic and Pounds will represent the Air Force's World Class Athlete Program (WCAP) at the senior nationals. Gensic cleared a personal-best qualifying mark of 18'3¼", while Pounds' 195'8" is second only to the American record-holder. Start lists have not currently been released for this meet.
Action begins for this Air Force quartet on Thursday, June 21, with Neubauer and the shot put competition at 2:30 p.m. EST. Frawley will also compete on Thursday, as the pole vault gets underway at 5:15 p.m. Friday's action features Neubauer in the discus throw (1:30 p.m.), Gensic in the pole vault (5:45 p.m.) and Pounds in the javelin throw (7:00 p.m.).
