Brian Walsh Takes 12th at NCAA Championships

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Senior Brian Walsh concluded his collegiate career with a 12th-place finish in the decathlon at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif., on Thursday, June 7. With 7207 points, Walsh placed among the top half of the field of 26 and just 61 points out of the top-10.
Walsh entered the day in 12th-place with 3748 points. In the day's opening event, the 110-meter hurdles, Walsh clocked a time to 15.76 to finish 20th. He followed that up with a 23rd-place finish in the discus throw behind a distance of 117'9".
Backed by those two finishes, Walsh fell to 19th in the overall standings, but quickly rebounded with a seventh-place performance in the pole vault, after clearing the bar at 14'9". Walsh continued to climb up the standings, recording a 16th-place finish in the javelin behind a throw of 170'5".
Walsh entered the final event in 16th-place, but used a seventh-place time of 4:30.65 in the 1500-meter run to vault up to 12th-place in the overall standings. That overall finish matches the best national finish of his career, as Walsh also placed 12th at this year's indoor meet.
