Falcons Drop 3-0 Decision to Portland State

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force volleyball team dropped a three-game set to Portland State on Saturday (Aug. 25) in the second match of the day at the Air Force Invitational at the Academy. The Falcon unable to hold off the visiting Vikings, dropping straight 30-24, 30-16, 30-20 sets.
Sophomore Katie Batchelder led the Falcons with nine kills and tied for the team lead with six digs. Junior Jasamine Pettie notched seven kills and tied for a team-best three assisted blocks.
Pettie and freshman Nichole Stilwell accounted for back-to-back blocks in the first set that led the way for junior Kristina Stewart to tie the set at seven. Portland State took the lead at the 15-14 lead before rolling to the 30-24 victory.
The Falcons were put in the hole early during both of the final two matches, en route to the 30-16, 30-20 defeats. Freshman Julia Hansen made her collegiate debut in the second set and promptly set down her first career kill. Classmates Jeena Kinney, Jessica Hellmann and Emily Frick also saw the first action of their collegiate careers during the final two periods.
The Falcons continue action tonight, as they host Bucknell at 7 p.m., in the final match of the Air Force Invitational.
