Sept. 2, 2007
Air Force track and field head coach Ralph Lindeman is currently in Osaka, Japan, serving as the Head Manager for the United States' men's track and field team at the 11th-Annual International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Outdoor Championships for Athletics. Lindeman took time out of his schedule with Team USA to let Air Force fans know what he has been up to.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 1
Just a quick post at 5:30 a.m., Saturday before I leave for the stadium and the 50k racewalk.
Team USA had a huge medal haul last night to put us back on track in the medal count -- gold in the women's 200-meters, a gold-silver-bronze sweep in the men's 400-meters and a silver-bronze in the men's 110-meter hurdles! Finals tonight in the decathlon, pole vault and javelin have the potential for another three.
In just a few hours the Falcons cross country team will open their season at Wyoming and I badly wish I could be there. I'm really excited about this team and their new coach, John Hayes. Wyoming is one of my favorite meets -- it's a beautiful course and the temperatures there now always have the chill of fall in the air, and I love the anticipation that goes with a new season and new expectations, both for individual runners and for the team. Go Falcons!
I'm also really missing the start of the college football season this week. The staff and I have been kidding each other about the caliber of our opening games -- on this staff are coaches from Texas A&M, Florida, Stanford, Kansas State and Tennessee among others. I've been keeping track of Falcon football online Finally, I regret missing Parents' Weekend at USAFA.
I'm homesick and anxious to get back to the Academy on Wednesday. But first a big weekend of track & field. Go USA! Go Falcons!
