Doeseckle and Navin Collect Victories at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Senior Brian Navin and sophomore John Doeseckle picked up victories for the Air Force boxing team during its annual showdown with service-academy rival Navy on Friday, Sept. 28. In all, the Falcons took nine boxers to Annapolis, Md., coming away with the 2-7 slate in the season-opening competition.
"All of the bouts were well-contested," head coach Eddie Weichers stated following the match. "Everyone came to fight, so I am pleased with that. The effort was there."
Facing Navy's Olvdate Adeniji in a 168-pound bout, Doeseckle was the only boxer to win by a referee-stopped-contest, as he took down his opponent in the third round. Navin's 158-pound victory came by decision over Ian Simon.
The Falcons fell in the first two bouts, before Navin and Doeseckle evened the overall score. Sophomore Ken Kaczmarek lost a 150-pound decision to Rubin Zweiban, while junior Nathan Liptak fell at 155 pounds to Denny East.
In the first of three 175-pound contests, senior Ryan Price fell by decision to Vic Colin, while classmates James Dunn and Mike Tolzein dropped respective decisions to Mike Steadman and Carl Governalli. Senior Bruce Jamison fell to Dmitry Shvets at 180 pounds, before classmate John Quinn closed out the night with a close decisional-loss to defending national champion Jeremiah Olver at 195 pounds.
The Falcons return to the Academy on Oct. 12, for the first of six rounds of intra-club action during Friday Night Fights. Action begins at 4:30 p.m., in the Upper Boxing Room of the Cadet Gymnasium.
