Falcons Set to Host Air Force Open

The Air Force cross country team will close out the 2008 regular season on Friday, Oct. 24, when it hosts the annual Air Force Open. The meet will be held at Eisenhower Golf Course on the Academy grounds and begin with the women's event at 4 p.m., and concludes with the men's meet at 4:30 p.m.

ABOUT THE MEET
The Air Force Open will be held on a 2000-meter course loop at the Academy's Eisenhower Golf Course. The course, which is relatively flat, features grass and dirt trails. The women will compete in either a 4K or 6K race, while the men will run distances of 6K or 8K beginning at 4:30 p.m. More information can be found under the 'Air Force Open (Oct. 24, 2008)' tab.
HOME SWEET HOME
Friday will mark the first time in several years that the Falcons have hosted their annual meet at the Academy. Air Force had previously held the meet at North Monument Valley Park in downtown Colorado Springs.
HISTORY 101
Last year, Calvin Glass and Whitney Beck led the Falcons to second-place finishes at the Air Force Open in Colorado Springs. Glass, who went on to win the conference's runner of the week award following the meet, placed third overall and was the second-fastest collegiate runner (26:21). Beck clocked a time of 27:28 to finish 11th, narrowly edging out Kelly Robinson, who finished 12th in 27:29.
LAST TIME OUT
Backed by three runners finishing within the top-third of the field of over 260, the Air Force men picked up a 15th-place finish at the prestigious Pre-Nationals Meet on Oct. 18. On the women's side, Air Force was paced by a pair of juniors and finished 37th.
LEADING THE WAY
Sean Houseworth led a contingent of Air Force scoring runners that clocked season-best times at the Pre-Nationals Meet on Oct. 18. Finishing 64th, Houseworth set the best time of the season for the Falcons in a 6K race at 24:35. Houseworth, Matt Williams (73rd) and Justin Tyner (87th) all finished within the top-third of the field.
FULL OF CLASS
Air Force was represented by members of every class (no seniors on roster) at the Pre-Nationals Meet on Oct. 18. In the Falcons' first 6K race of the year, junior Katie Lynch clocked a time of 22:30 to lead the Falcons. Classmate Ally Romanko and sophomore Katherine Ward joined freshmen Elyse Willard and Auriele Fain as the Falcons' scoring competitors.
ON THE HORIZON
Select members of the Falcons' program will travel to San Diego, Calif., for the 2008 Mountain West Conference Cross Country Championships. The league meet, which features six men's teams and nine women's teams, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Mission Bay Park.
