NEW YORK, N.Y. - Senior Boyce Loomis and junior Cory Tintzman claimed a pair of victories as the Air Force boxing team wrapped up competition at the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) Invitational in New York City on Monday, Nov. 24. On the night, the Falcons went 2-1 against boxers at the prestigious New York Athletic Club.
Loomis defeated Navy's Evin Nordstrom in a 195-pound bout, when the referee stopped the contest in the third round. After a slow start in the opening round, Loomis upped the pressure and earned the victory, as the referee had to call a pair of standing eight counts on Nordstrom.
Tintzman earned his victory by winning a decision over Army's Art Boyev in the night's heavyweight bout. Like Loomis, Tintzman started slow, but gained momentum during the final two rounds. Showing good speed and combinations, while landing timely power shots, Tintzman earned the judges' decision and the Academy's Boxer of the Week award.
The Falcons' lone loss on the night was in the 130-pound match. Competing in a weight division nearly 20 pounds over his normal class, senior Dean Chuva lost a decision to Brandon Dahl of Santa Clara. Despite a hard-fought bout, Chuva was unable to overcome Dahl's defense.
The Falcons close out the fall semester on Dec. 5, when they host another round of Friday Night Fights in the Upper Boxing Room of the Cadet Gym.
