Air Force Concludes Action at Tyson Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Freshman Rachel Miller recorded a career-best pole vault clearance as several members of the Air Force track and field team wrapped up competition at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., on Saturday, Feb. 16. Miller became just the fourth female pole vaulter in Academy history to clear the 12-foot plateau.
Classmate Rachel Simmons tied for fourth in the pole vault with a height of 12'6", while Miller's vault of 12'0" was tied for 13th. With her mark, Miller upped her fourth-place standing in the program record book. She joins sophomore Melissa Beerse, Miller and former Falcon Ana-Maria Ortega (Class of 2001) as the only women to clear the 12-foot plateau.
Junior Kirk Devine picked up a 12th-place finish in the weight throw, as he posted a distance of 58'9¼" on his final attempt. Sophomore Dan Paladino finished 20th (53'8½"), while junior Ian Hurdle placed 23rd with a throw of 52'1".
Sophomore Sara Neubauer picked up a 22nd-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 47'9¾", while senior Travis Picou clocked a time of 21.69 in the 200-meter dash to finish 26th. Freshman LD Woods also competed in the dash, clocking a time of 22.66.
Air Force travels to Laramie, Wyo., for the Robert Shine Invitational on Friday, Feb. 22. The meet will serve as a final tune-up for the Mountain West Conference championships, which are set to begin the following week at the Academy.
