Falcons Drop 7-0 Decision to No. 22 TCU

The Air Force women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to 22nd-ranked TCU Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas. The Falcons fell to 5-15 overall and 0-3 in the Mountain West Conference, while TCU improved to 12-4 overall and 2-0 in league play.
The Horned Frogs earned the doubles point by sweeping all three doubles matches. TCU's No. 3 team of Nina Munch Soegaard and Maria Babanova was first off the court after defeating Falcon freshmen Christen Monreal and Samantha Sarkis, 8-1. Anna Sydorska and Kewa Nichols followed suit at No. 2 doubles with an 8-2 victory over seniors Lauren Wilson and Erika Shortridge. TCU also won the No. 1 match as Idunn Hertzberg and Kateriina Tuohimaa won a tough, 8-5 decision over junior Christine Abayan and sophomore Erlyn Rudico.
In singles play, TCU won all six matches in straight sets. Sydorska downed Wilson at the No. 2 spot, 6-1, 6-0, while Nichols took care of Sarkis by the same score at No. 4. Munch-Soegaard, ranked 67th in the country, clinched the team match for TCU with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position over Abayan.
Tuohimaa defeated junior Meghan Kiser, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, Hertzberg beat freshman Katrina Eromin, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 and Babanova downed Monreal, 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot.
The Falcons continue MWC action with a pair of home matches next week. Air Force will host No. 47 BYU on Thursday, April 3 and No. 56 Utah on Friday, April 4. Both matches will begin at 10 a.m. at the Academy.
