Daryn Nelson Earns NCBA Quarterfinal Victory

RENO, Nev. - Senior Daryn Nelson earned the right to advance to the next round of action at the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) National Championships with a victory during the second round of quarterfinal action late Thursday (April 10) night in Reno, Nev. Nelson was one of four Falcons to compete in the evening session of competition.
Competing in one of the 156-pound quarterfinal bouts, Nelson picked up a 4-1 decision from Maryland's Russ Williams.
Three other Falcons competed in the second quarterfinal session, but failed to advance. Junior Harvey White dropped a unanimous decision to Mansfield's Roi Ligon in a 125-pound bout, while classmate Nathan Liptak was defeated by Army's Steve Henoa-Escobar in a 147-pound decision. Senior Clifford Moore lost a 4-1 decision to Army's Ryle Stous in a 165-pound contest.
Action at the NCBA Championships continues tomorrow (April 11) with the semifinal round of action. Nelson will join classmate Chris Johnson, who advanced at 195 pounds out of the morning session, and five other Falcons who received byes in the first round.
