Air Force Concludes Second Day at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa - With three top-five finishes in seven events, the Air Force track and field team completed the second day of competition at the Drake Relays on Friday, April 25, in Des Moines, Iowa. Senior David Lissy improved his career-best distance in the shot put to tie for fourth (56'4") with the third-best throw in Academy history.
The Falcons' 4x1600-meter relay quartet of junior Matt Williams, senior Ian McFarland, junior Sean Houseworth and junior Daniel Castle finished fourth with a time of 17:00.24, while sophomore Nick Frawley finished fifth in the pole vault with a clearance of 16'0¾". Frawley's clearance was the second-highest of the meet.
On the women's side, the 4x800-meter relay team of sophomore Ally Romanko, senior Kelly Robinson, sophomore Becca Burditt and sophomore Danielle McCarty clocked a time of 9:16.92. Finishing 13th in the race, the squad clocked the second-best time in Academy history. That time trails only the record-setting team for 1984.
Sophomore Katie Weber recorded a distance of 138'8" to finish 13th in the javelin throw. Former Academy standout and current volunteer coach 2Lt Dana Pounds posted the best overall distance at 188'1". It is the fifth straight year that Pounds has led the javelin field. In addition, Pounds' WCAP teammate and volunteer coach 2Lt Olivia Korte posted the eighth-best discus throw (157'0").
The Falcons travel to Laramie, Wyo., on Saturday, May 3, for the first-ever Front Range Invitational. Air Force will take on its counterparts from Colorado, Colorado State, Northern Colorado and Wyoming.
