Columbus, Ohio - In its first Great Western Lacrosse League match of the season, the Air Force lacrosse team dropped a 16-5 contest to 18th-ranked Ohio State Sunday afternoon at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Falcons fall to 2-5 on the season, 0-1 in the GWLL, while the Buckeyes improve to 7-3, 2-0 in the conference.
The Falcons got on the board early, with junior Griffin Nevitt (Charlotte, N.C.) scoring in the first minute of the contest. However, Ohio State responded by scoring the next 11 goals to open up an insurmountable lead. Nevitt stopped the Air Force drought with his second goal of the contest at the 5:34 mark in the second period, but the Buckeyes tallied two more scores in the half to take a 13-2 lead at the break.
Air Force notched the only goal of the third period, as senior Jack Parchman (Baltimore, Md.) scored a man-up goal on an assist from freshman Vinny Sandtorv (Centereach, N.Y.). However, the Falcons never got closer than nine, as the Buckeyes outscored Air Force 3-2 in the final period.
Nevitt led the Falcons' offense with two goals and an assist, while Parchman, David Rose (Sr., Allentown, Pa.) and Peter Krasco (Sr., Medford, Mass.) added the final scores for Air Force. Freshman goalkeeper Brian Wilson (Summit, N.J.) was solid in relief for the Falcons, tallying seven saves with three goals against in 30 minutes of action.
Joel Dalgarno (three goals, three assists) and Kevin Buchanan (one goal, five assists) each led the Ohio State offense with six points on the afternoon.
Air Force returns home next weekend for a pair of league contests against Bellarmine and Quinnipiac. The Falcons host Bellarmine at 3:00 p.m. on April 11, while welcoming Quinnipiac on April 13 at 12:00 p.m. Both contests will be held at Cadet Lacrosse Stadium.
