Multi-Event Athletes Conclude Day One of MWC Meet

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Mountain West Conference Track and Field Championships got underway this afternoon (May 14) for four members of the Air Force program. Three decathletes and one heptathlete took part in the first half of their respective events at the Lowdon Track and Field Complex in Fort Worth, Texas.
Sophomore Danielle McCarty, the Falcons' lone heptathlete, is currently in ninth place with 2,619 points. Her best finish of the day came in the high jump, where she finished sixth with a clearance of 5'3". She also claimed ninth-place finishes in the 200-meter dash (27.01) and shot put (31'7½"), as well as a 10th-place time of 16.40 in the 100-meter hurdles.
Junior Skylar Morgan currently leads the trio of Air Force contenders in the decathlon with a fourth-place total of 3,434 points. Morgan picked up a second-place high jump of 6'2¼", while claiming a third-place mark of 21'2" in the long jump. He also earned a fourth-place distance of 37'1¼" in the shot put, a fifth-place time of 11.39 in the 100-meter dash and a sixth-place time of 52.53 in the 400-meter dash.
Senior Matt Gensic (3,291 points) and freshman Noah Palicia (3,186 points) stand in sixth- and seventh-place, respectively, after the first five events.
Gensic earned fifth-place scores in four of the events, including the 400-meter dash (52.37), high jump (5'10¾"), long jump (20'10") and shot put (36'9½"). He also finished seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.60. Palicia's top finish came in the 400-meter dash, where he finished second with a time of 49.57. He also earned a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 100-meter dash (11.56) and high jump (5'9¾"), as well as a seventh-place score in the long jump (18'9") and an eighth-place score in the shot put (32'8½").
These four Falcons conclude action tomorrow (May 15) with the final half of their respective events. The three decathletes begin at 11 a.m. (CST), while McCarty starts at 11:30 a.m. In addition, the men's hammer throw will take place at 5:30 p.m.
