Paul Gensic Improves Olympic Trials Qualifying Mark

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Air Force volunteer pole vault coach Paul Gensic (Class of 2005) represented the Academy and the Air Force World Class Athlete Program (WCAP) at the Pole Vault, Jumps, Javelin and Discus Series event at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. Gensic improved his qualifying time to the upcoming Olympic Trials with a personal-best clearance of 18'4½".
Gensic, who barely missed his attempt at the 18'8¼" clearance, defeated two of the reigning Olympic medalists in Tim Mack (Gold) and Toby Stevenson (Silver).
Prior to this meet, Gensic was ranked 20th in the country (18'3¾") and had already earned a spot in the Olympic Trials as one of the top 24 pole vaulters in the country. However, following his clearance of 18'4½", Gensic is now ranked 16th.
The qualifying round of pole vault competition at the U.S. Olympic Trials begins Friday, June 27, at 5:50 p.m. (PST). All action will take place at the historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
