Falcons Place 27 on Academic All-Conference List

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Air Force track and field program placed 27 cadet-athletes of the Mountain West Conference winter/spring all-academic team, the league announced this afternoon (June 19). With 21 selections, the men's team produced the most honorees of any of the Academy's 10 winter/spring sports. The women's team placed six on the list.
NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient Kenny Grosselin highlighted the field with a 3.96 cumulative grade-point-average in mathematics. He is one of five seniors to earn academic all-conference recognition. Classmate Creighton Moorman had a 3.80 GPA in aeronautical engineering, while Josh van Wyngaarden posted a 3.71 GPA in biology. Rounding out the class were Erik Mirandette (3.11-systems engineering management) and two-time conference champion Ian McFarland (3.06-civil engineering).
The junior class boasted the most academic all-conference selections with seven. Daniel Castle (English) and Justin Mason (aeronautical engineering) led the class with matching grade-point-averages of 3.71. Matt Williams held a 3.52 GPA in behavioral sciences, while Aaron Nelson recorded a 3.39 GPA in geological studies. Throwers Harmon Gage (3.27-operations research), Ian Hurdle (3.24-legal studies) and Kirk Devine (3.05-systems engineering) rounded out the class.
Four sophomores and five freshmen were also named to the academic all-conference list. Austin Fritzke, who led the sophomores with a 3.74 GPA in electrical engineering, was joined by Zach Nordahl (3.58-civil engineering), Arthur Grijalva (3.34-operations research) and Marshall Wills (3.08-economics). Tyler Small paced the freshmen with a 3.64 undeclared average, while Chris Severino (3.27-civil engineering), Kyle Southard (3.05-undeclared), Connor Van Fossen (3.02-undeclared) and Kyle Goldsmith (3.01-computer engineering) were also named to the academic all-MWC list.
Three of the six women represented the sophomore class, highlighted by Brittany Morreale's 3.93 GPA in physics. The squad also included classmates Ally Romanko (3.05-history) and Becca Burditt (3.00-behavioral sciences). Senior Kelly Robinson (3.26-political sciences) joined freshmen Sarah O'Meara (3.78-biochemistry) and Jessica Drewicz (3.65-meteorology) on the academic all-conference list.
To be eligible for selection student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and have participated in varsity competition for their athletic team.
