Air Force Track and Field Announces 2009 Schedule

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Five home competitions, including the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships, highlight the 2009 Air Force track and field schedule that head coach Ralph Lindeman announced today (Sept. 19). The Falcons will compete in 11 different meets during the indoor season, while traveling to 16 separate competitions during the outdoor portion of the year.
Air Force will host four meets during the regular season at the Academy's Cadet Field House, beginning with the Don Barrett All-Comers Meet on Jan. 16. The Falcons will also host the Air Force Combined Events Meet (Jan. 30-31), the Air Force Duals (Jan. 31) and the Air Force Invitational (Feb. 13-14), before welcoming its eight Mountain West Conference counterparts to the Academy on Feb. 26-28 for the 2009 conference championship meet.
During the indoor season, the pole vault team will travel to the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev., on Jan. 3, while the Falcons will also compete at the MWC/Big 12 Conference Challenge (Lincoln, Neb., Jan. 24), the Meyo Invitational (South Bend, Ind., Feb. 6-7) and the Robert Shine Invitational (Laramie, Wyo., Feb. 20). Select Falcons will travel to the NCAA Qualification Meet in Seattle, Wash., on March 6, while others may travel to the national indoor meet in College Station, Texas, on March 13-14.
The outdoor season begins on March 20-21, with the Willie Williams Classic in Tucson, Ariz. During that month, Air Force will also compete at the Desert Decathlon-Heptathlon (Scottsdale, Ariz., March 25-26), Stanford Invitational (Palo Alto, Calif., March 27-28) and the Arizona Invitational (Tempe, Ariz., March 28). Over the course of the outdoor season, the Falcons will also compete at the Tom Benich Classic (Greeley, Colo., April 4), the Colorado Invitational (Boulder, Colo., April 11), the Jack Christiansen Invitational (Fort Collins, Colo., April 25), the Front Range Invitational (Boulder, Colo., May 2) and the Payton Jordan Invitational (Palo Alto, Calif., May 2).
The prestigious "relay" season will see select athletes travel to Austin, Texas, for the Texas Relays (April 3-4), Walnut, Calif., for the Mt SAC Relays (April 15-18) and Des Moines, Iowa, for the Drake Relays (April 24-25). Air Force will travel to Laramie, Wyo., for the 2009 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Championships on May 13-16. The 2009 post-season continues at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships (Norman, Okla., May 29-30) and the NCAA Outdoor Championships (Fayetteville, Ark., June 10-13).
