Noller Named MPSF Player of the Week
Steven Noller has been named the Brine Co-Player of the Week by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation after leading the Falcons to the BSC Armed Forces Classic title last weekend.
Noller, who shared the award with Lamar Neagle of UNLV, scored two of Air Force's three goals this weekend as the Falcons claimed one-goal victories over service-academy rivals Navy and Army.
In the first round of the Classic on Friday, Noller scored the game's only goal on a rocket from about 10 yards in the 77th minute as Air Force defeated Navy, 1-0. It was AFA's first win over Navy since 1984. Freshman Zach Brinlee recorded an assist on the play, his first collegiate point.
On Sunday against Army, Noller scored the first goal of the game in the 22nd minute after collecting a pass from Kevin Rosser and scoring on a breakaway past Army goalie A.J. Glubzinski. Brinlee scored the game winner for Air Force later in the first half.

First Round - BSC Armed Forces Classic
The Air Force men's soccer team captured its first victory of the 2008 season Friday night by defeating service-academy rival Navy, 1-0, in the first round of the BSC Armed Forces Classic played on the campus of Birmingham Southern University in Birmingham, Ala. With the victory, Air Force is 1-5 this season, while Navy fell to 3-2.
Junior Steven Noller notched his first goal of the season and junior goalie Jim Gullo posted the first shutout of his career as the Falcons defeated Navy for the first time since 1984. Noller took a pass from freshman Zach Brinlee and fired a straight-on shot past Navy goalie Tyler Bristol in the 77th minute. The assist was Brinlee's first point of his career.
Bristol was forced into duty early in the second half when starting keeper Nolan Grebb left the game after suffering an injury after a collision with Air Force's John Tilton. Tilton was issued a yellow card on the play. Grebb did not face an Air Force shot during his 48 minutes of play, but Bristol had to make six saves as the Falcons turned up the heat offensively in the second half. Air Force's offense was also boosted when Navy's Mark Garcia was issued a red card in the 68th minute.
Noller's goal not only secured Air Force its first win of the season, but it snapped a scoreless streak that had spanned 457 minutes. He led the Falcons with three of the team's seven shots on goal. Navy's three shots on goal tied the fewest by an Air Force opponent this season as Gullo made three saves.
