Danielle McCarty Takes Second in Pentathlon

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Junior Danielle McCarty was the top collegiate finisher in the pentathlon during the Air Force Combined Events Meet on Friday, Jan. 30. Finishing just 21 points shy of her career high, McCarty led the collegiate field at the Academy's Cadet Field House.
McCarty's best finish on the night was a second-place score in the long jump. McCarty posted a distance of 17'4¾" to finish as the event's runner-up. She also finished fourth in the high jump (5'3") shot put (31'6½") and 800-meter run (2:35.22).
Freshman Phaelen French made her debut in the pentathlon, scoring 2698 points to finish seventh. That tally is the ninth-best in Air Force history. French's score was highlighted by a third-place finish in the 800-meter run, as she crossed the finish line in 2:29.96. French also recorded a distance of 16'5" in the long jump to place sixth.
In addition to the women's pentathlon, the men concluded the first four events of the heptathlon, with junior Joel Nolan holding on to second-place in the standings.
Finishing second in three of the four individual events contested this afternoon, Nolan has accumulated 2670 points. Nolan clocked a time of 7.26 to take second in the 60-meter dash, while earning the seame placement in the high jump (6'0") and long jump (21'1½").
Freshman Jacob Ringrose accumulated 2028 points in the first four events and stands in seventh-place. His best finish of the day was a sixth-place time of 7.61 in the 60-meter dash.
The final three events of the men's heptathlon (60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1000-meter run) will continue tomorrow (Jan. 31) at 8:30 a.m. The rest of the Falcons will host the first-ever Don Barrett Duals at 10 a.m. The meet will feature Air Force, Colorado State, Northern Colorado and Wyoming.
