Playing its final round on Tuesday, the Air Force golf team placed 15th at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, being held at the par-71, 7,074-yard NMSU Golf Course. The Falcons finished the tournament with a three-round score of 874 (+22).
Senior Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.) was the top finisher for Air Force, firing a 71 in the final round to tie for 24th place with an even-par 213. Freshman Andrew Hoops (Highland, Calif.) was next in the individual standings for the Falcons, tying for 34th place at 215 (+2).
Sophomore Robert Belz (San Antonio, Texas) ended the tournament tied for 54th place (221), followed by Kyle Bailey (Jr., Austin, Texas) in a tie for 82nd place (226) and Travis Deckert (So., Wichita, Kan.), who tied for 88th place (229). Meanwhile, senior Peter Guzowski (Tiffin, Ohio), competing as an individual, finished the tournament in 86th place at 227.
UNLV won the team title with a three-round score of 829 (-23). Meanwhile, the Rebels' Derek Ernst tied with New Mexico State's Timothy Madigan for medalist honors, with each golfer firing a 204 (-9) for the tournament.
The Falcons close out the fall season next week, Nov. 2-4, at the Turtle Bay Resort College Invitational in Kahuku, Hawaii.
