Meet the Newcomers: Air Force Women

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - With just two months until the start of the 2010 track and field season, GoAirForceFalcons.com will take a look at the newest members of the Air Force program. This week, the women will be spotlighted. The freshmen roster features five Colorado natives and a two-time New Mexico state champion.
Colorado Springs native Jen Bremser finished fifth at the Colorado state cross country championships in 2007, while placing second in the 3200-meter run at the 2008 state track meet. The state's top finisher at the Footlocker Midwest Regional meet, Bremser was selected as the 5A Cross Country Runner of the Year by the Colorado Springs Gazette.
Fellow Colorado native Laura Young (Glenwood Springs) finished within the top-three of the 300-meter hurdles during each of the last two 4A state track and field championship meets. In 2008, she was the meet runner-up, while taking a third-place finish in 2009. In addition, Morgan Mosby (Evergreen, Colo.) placed fourth at the 2007 4A championships in the 800-meter run, while finishing 13th in the 2008 state cross country championships.
As a senior, Lesly Torres (Los Lunas, N.M.) was the state champion in the long jump and triple jump, while finishing second in the high jump, leading her squad to a fourth-place finish in the team standings. In addition, Torres was the New Mexico champion in the 100-meter hurdles and high jump as a junior and placed 13th in the heptathlon at the Great Southwest Classic.
Bizzy Mellado (South Barrington, Ill.) was the third-place finisher in the pole vault at the Illinois 3A state championship meet, while Katie Moorkamp (Wildwood, Mo.) earned a pair of top-10 finishes at the Missouri Class 3-4 state championships, finishing sixth in the discus throw and ninth in the shot put.
Also joining the women's program are horizontal jumper Molly Bush (Monument, Colo.), pole vaulter Pia Goodman (Chatham, Ill.), horizontal jumper Deanna MacMillan (Warrensburg, Mo.), javelin thrower Liz Pelkowski (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), high jumper Loren Van Rassen (Mishawaka, Ind.), sprinter Brandy Jayne (Eagle River, Alaska) and middle distance runner Kara Hovseth (Scottsbluff, Neb.).
