Falcons Host DU in Season Finale
The Air Force Falcons wrap up their 2009 regular season this weekend by hosting the University of Denver on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. Air Force is 7-7-1 overall and 2-4 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, while the Pioneers are 3-9-3 overall and 0-4-1 in league play entering their game against Seattle University on Thursday, Nov. 5 in Denver.
Air Force Drops Two League Games
The Falcons lost a pair of conference road games last weekend to fall to 0-7 in true road games this season. Air Force lost to CSU Bakersfield on Friday, 2-1, then lost by the same score in double overtime on Sunday to Seattle University. Senior Josh Rhynard and freshman Kevin Durr each posted a goal and an assist during the weekend. Rhynard leads the team with 12 points on four goals and four assists.
Gullo Named Academic All-District
Air Force goalkeeper Jim Gullo has been named to the 2009 CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 7 men's soccer team. Gullo, who currently has a 3.79 cumulative GPA in biochemistry, will now go on the ballot for Academic All-America consideration. This is the first all-district selection for Gullo.
A senior from River Forest, Ill., Gullo started the first six games of the season and has appeared in seven. He has a 3-2-1 record and an impressive 1.12 goals-against average, allowing just seven goals in his seven appearances. He made a season-high seven saves in the season opener against College of Charleston and posted back-to-back shutouts.
The district team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in nine states that carry at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA.
Seven Seniors Play Final Home Game
Seven Falcons will play their final game at Cadet Soccer Stadium on Saturday against Denver. Josh Rhynard, Kevin Rosser, Steven Noller, Aaron Eshkenazi, Jim Gullo, Jared Gomez and Kirk Bingaman will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
Rhynard is the team's active career leading scorer with 29 points on 10 goals and nine assists. He has played in 69 career games as a Falcon.
Rosser is just behind Rhynard in scoring this season with 11 points. He has three goals and a team-high five assists. He has 22 points in 63 career games.
Noller led the team in scoring last season and is third this year with eight points (3g, 2a). In 49 career games, he has nine goals and four assists, good for 22 points.
Eshkenazi has been a defensive star for Air Force in his three seasons with the varsity program. He has appeared in all 51 games the last three seasons and has started all but one of them. He scored his first career goal earlier this year, the game-winner against Furman.
Gullo started the first six games of the season and has appeared in seven. He has a 3-2-1 record and an impressive 1.12 goals-against average, allowing just seven goals in his seven appearances. He made a season-high seven saves in the season opener against College of Charleston and posted back-to-back shutouts.
Gomez has had an impressive senior campaign, scoring three goals and adding an assist for seven points, good for fourth on the team. He has a team-high two game-winning goals, against UMKC and UNLV.
Bingaman has appeared in seven career games, including six this season as a reserve defender.
