LARAMIE, Wyo. - Highlighted by several additions to the record book and a sweep of the top two spots in the pole vault, the Air Force track and field team concluded action at the Robert Shine Invitational on Friday, Feb. 20. The meet, featuring conference opponents Colorado State and Wyoming, was the final tune-up for the MWC Championships, which begin next week at the Academy.
Freshman Kimber Shealy cleared 12'6" to win the pole vault (the original results incorrectly listed Shealy's clearance at 13'0¼"). The personal-best height moved Shealy up the all-time records from fourth to third.
Several other incursions were made to the program's all-time record book at the War Memorial Field House. Robert Drye improved his Freshman Class record in the weight throw, as he posted a distance of 54'6" - the 10th-best throw in Academy history.
On the women's side, freshman Paige Blackburn moved to fourth on the program's shot put with a distance of 44'4¾", while sophomore Christina Burke's 47'0¼" in the shot put is the 10th-best mark in Academy history.
In addition to Shealy's winning mark on the pole vault, Air Force also picked up a second-place finish, as classmate Tawny Lambuth finished second with a clearance of 11'6¼". On the men's side, Air Force accounted for four of the top five spots, highlighted by fellow freshman Cort Rogers' clearance of 16'0". Junior Myles McDowell matched that height to take second, while freshman Brandin Bear and junior Marshall Wills placed fourth (15'6¼") and fifth (15'0"), respectively.
Sophomore Necressaine White picked up a first-place finish in the long jump, recording a distance of 18'0½" (a distance just shy of her career-best 18'1"). White also finished second in the 55-meter dash (7.25) and third in the 200-meter dash (26.40).
Senior Kevin Rivers also claimed multiple top-three finishes, including a victory in the 200-meter dash (22.97). Rivers also placed second in the 55-meter dash (6.48). Rivers paced a trio of Falcons in both events. Senior Matt Davis placed second in the 200-meter dash (23.43) and fourth in the 55-meter dash (6.55). Reggie Rembert made his debut in the 55-meter dash, placing third in 6.49, while Chris Severino posted the same placement in the 200-meter dash in 23.59.
Air Force returns to the Academy on Thursday (Feb. 26), when it hosts the three-day Mountain West Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
