PROVO, Utah - The Air Force women's basketball team dropped a 60-41 Mountain West Conference contest at BYU Wednesday night at the Marriott Center. The Falcons dropped to 4-17, 0-8 while the Cougars improved to 15-5, 5-3.
Jazmine Foreman led BYU with 10 points and five assists. Shawnee Slade and Mindy Nielson both added eight points.
Senior Brooke Cultra led all scorers with 15 points. Cultra also had five rebounds and three steals. Senior Kim Kreke also reached double-figures in scoring for the Falcons, scoring 11 points. Raimee Beck scored seven points and had nine rebounds. Liz Dunsworth also tied a team-high with nine rebounds.
A hot start by BYU, coupled with an ice-cold start by Air Force, saw AFA trailing 7-0 to start and 19-3 eight minutes into the game. The Falcons shot just 27 percent from the field in the opening stanza, while the Cougars shot 46.9 percent and took a 41-15 lead at the break.
Air Force fought back with a strong second-half, outscoring BYU 26-19, but the big first-half deficit was too big a hurdle to overcome.
The Falcons return to action Feb. 7, hosting San Diego State. Tipoff is at 2 p.m.MST.
