Sara Neubauer Wins Shot with NCAA Provisional Throw

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Air Force junior Sara Neubauer recorded a season-best distance to win the shot put during the final day of action at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 7 in South Bend, Ind. Neubauer's season-best, Junior Class record of 49'11¼" is a NCAA Provisional Qualifying Mark.
Neubauer bettered the field of 28 by nearly two feet. Her winning mark, a new Junior Class record by three inches, came via her first attempt. The junior is the second Air Force athlete this weekend to post a provisional mark into the national meet.
Freshman Paige Blackburn placed 15th in the same event with a throw of 42'4¾". Also from the field, classmate Kimber Shealy cleared 11'11¾" to place 14th in the pole vault.
On the track, the 4x400-meter relay team of Jessica Mapes, Becca Burditt, Margaret Weingart and Danielle McCarty clocked the seventh-fastest time in Academy history (3:57.53) to place 16th. Burditt also moved into eighth on the program's all-time 800-meter run list, as she clocked 2:16.25 to finish 44th. Classmate Ally Romanko, who holds the program record in the 800-meter run, finished 27th with a time of 2:14.08.
Junior Nicole Elliott finished 23rd in the 60-meter hurdles (9.18), while earning a 34th-place time of 8.17 in the 60-metetr dash. Freshman Auriele Fain placed 30th in the mile with a time of 5:05.87, while McCarty finish 35th in the hurdles with a time of 9.75. Mapes and Weingart placed 46th (59.82) and 48th (59.93), respectively, in the 400-meter dash.
On the men's side, senior Kellen Curry finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles (8.21) and 12th in the 200-meter dash (22.04). His time in the 200 is the 10th-fastest in program history, while his qualifying time in the hurdles of 8.00 matched his career-high and the eighth-fastest time in Academy history.
Placing fifth in the mile, classmate Daniel Castle moved into the program's all-time record book, as his time of 4:08.30 is ranked 10th. Classmate Sebastian Ortiz finished 15th in a time of 4:14.71, while junior Andy Schweitzer placed 23rd with a time of 4:18.37.
Air Force also had three runners in the "Ryan Shay 3000-Meter Run". Sophomore Justin Tyner finished 27th in the race with a time of 8:32.48, while junior Zach Nordahl finished 30th with a time of 8:35.10. Senior Justin Mason rounded out the trio with a 41st-place time of 8:48.43.
Sophomore Tyler Stanley finished 33rd in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.69, while junior Conor Murphy placed 40th with a time of 1:55.63. Freshman Bryce Bergman finished 25th in the preliminary heat of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.62, while classmate Max Lutton placed 31st in the 400-meter dash at 49.43. Dillon Stucky rounded out the Falcons' field with a 12th-place distance of 45'10" in the triple jump.
The Falcons return to the Academy on next weekend (Feb. 13-14), when they host the annual Air Force Invitational.
