Air Force Drops Friday Game At UNLV, 11-3

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Air Force dropped a 11-3 game at UNLV in Mountain West Conference baseball action Friday night at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. The loss dropped the Falcons to 6-10, 0-4 while the Rebels improved to 12-7, 1-3.
UNLV hit four home runs in the game and starting pitcher Jeff Urlaub (3-1) held Air Force to three runs in eight innings pitched.
Falcon starter Alex Truesdale (2-3) took the loss, allowing six runs in 5.1 innings pitched. Andrew Loyd and Jason Griggs also pitched in relief.
The Rebels had 17 hits in the game. Leadoff hitter Ryan Thornton had three hits, including a home run and six other Rebels had two hits apiece.
Air Force had 13 hits in the game. Blair Roberts, Matt Alexander, Daniel Walker, Jon McMahon and Parker Mayo had two hits each for the Falcons. Alexander had the Falcons' lone extra-base hit of the game, hitting an RBI-triple in the first.
Air Force scored a pair of runs in the first to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. UNLV then scored a run in the first and three in the second to lead 4-2. Ryan Thornton started the Rebels' home run barrage with a leadoff homer in the first and Chad Claus hit a three-run double in the second.
The Falcons plated a run in the fourth but UNLV came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Jarred Frierson then hit a solo home run in the seventh and Rance Roundy and Jesse Wight hit back-to-back homers in the eighth to put the Rebels ahead 11-3.
Game two of the three-game series is tomorrow, March 21, at 2 p.m. PST.
